The Use of Force
William’s
The Use of Force depicts the doctor
tried to exam Mrs. and Mr. Olson’s daughter, Mathilda Olson’s throat for
possible diphtheria disease. Due to Mathilda Olson did not cooperate with the doctor;
the doctor used force to open her mouth to get a diagnosis. Although the doctor
found out that the girl was infected by diphtheria disease, the use of force
caused the girl bleeding in her mouth and screaming to fight back. This story shows
that the doctor was lack of professionalism and unempathetic to his patients. His
anger ruined the relationship between a doctor and a patient. His behavior
destroyed his personal impulse. The parent was portrayed as passive characters
and they agreed to whatever the doctor did and not say anything to object what
the doctor did to their daughter. The use of force not only affected the girl
psychologically but also physically. All the actions created a hazardous
environment. The force might be avoided if there is no conflict in social difference
and a good parenting from the parent to the girl.
